OPSO Media Awards
27 Oct '10
Media, sponsors and friends of OPSO gathered on the 25th October at the State Library in Brisbane for the annual, national Media Awards which award journalists for their positive portrayal of older people in the media.
For those who are unfamiliar with OPSO’s work they are a dedicated team of professionals, an ‘independent, free-spirited group with the experience, knowledge and qualifications to speak out on older people’s issues without fear or favour’.
Their members (who are all volunteers!) include qualified people from various professions, who share their ideas and professionalism with others to help them acquire the skills which will empower them to be advocates for the notion of healthy ageing and promote the unrecognised contribution older people make to the stability of society.
This year’s media awards focused on one of the major issues facing Australia: the need to keep older workers in the workforce. Val French AM, President of OPSO is in her eighties and is actively and passionately campaigning to change community and business attitudes to ensure we meet the challenge of our ageing population.
TriCare, as a long term sponsor of OPSO and the Media Awards, wish to congratulate all award winners on their achievement.
