The Assistant Minister met with TAFE graduates who recently completed Certificate III in Individual Support, an 18 week course with a vocational placement component of 120 hours, giving students the skills needed to provide individual care to people in home, community or health care setting.

“It was a real pleasure to meet the graduates who have made their way into great jobs through their vocational education and training with Gold Coast TAFE,” Assistant Minister Andrews said.

“Closer collaboration between industry and training providers is essential to ensuring students get the skills employers are looking for and this is a great local example of that.”

TriCare Aged Care Manager, Daniel Aitchison said that TriCare is a long standing supporter of the VET sector and recognizes the value students bring to an organization.

“Students come to us with the latest technical knowledge and education, and we give them the practical application in a highly skilled and professional environment.

“As a leader in the aged care sector, TriCare is committed to working with training providers such as Gold Coast TAFE, to deliver high quality and relevant training and employment opportunities for people on the Gold Coast,” said Mr Aitchison.

TAFE Queensland – Gold Coast Region Director, Community Services, Health and Nursing, Debbie Blow, echoes TriCare’s sentiments.

“We want to send our students to an organization where they will experience best practice, will be afforded good experiential learning opportunities and be embraced by the facility. TriCare ticks all these boxes,” said Ms Blow.

In addition to Certificate III in Individual Support, TriCare provides vocational placement opportunities for TAFE Queensland students completing Diploma of Nursing, Certificate IV in Ageing Support, Certificate IV in Leisure & Health and Certificate II in Health Support Services.
