Giving back part of everyday life at TriCare Willow Glen

Giving back to the community and helping others has always been an integral part of everyday life at TriCare Willow Glen Retirement Village.

Over the years, residents have dedicated time and effort supporting many charities through craft, collecting and fundraising events.

Village Manager, Tim Naidu says village residents never tire of getting involved and helping out where they can.

“Residents have supported local charities and organisations such as Meals on Wheels, Ambulance Toowoomba and the Toowoomba Hospice over the years and don’t look to be slowing down!” said Mr Naidu.

One local charity that recently received support is Cancer Council Queensland’s Olive McMahon Lodge in East Toowoomba.

Relying completely on community fundraising to operate, Olive McMahon Lodge provides accommodation for regional and remote Queenslander’s receiving treatment for cancer.

President of TriCare Willow Glen Residents Committee, Elizabeth Grace, said their latest fundraising event, a morning tea for residents and friends, raised in excess of $1,400 from entry, donations and a raffle.

“I am constantly amazed by the generosity, support and resident’s willingness to help out their local community.

We are so pleased that proceeds from our event will help the very worthy cause of providing accommodation for cancer sufferers, and their families, in the Toowoomba region,” said Mrs Grace.

Cancer Council Queensland, Community Support Co-ordinator, Alyce Morris, said that without the support of communities such as TriCare Willow Glen, they would not be able to provide this much needed service.

“We provide a home away from home for people undergoing specialist cancer treatment and are very grateful for the thoughtful fundraising efforts of the residents at TriCare Willow Glen.

Their efforts ensure Olive McMahon Lodge can relieve some of the financial burden time away from home can cause during treatment,” said Ms Morris.
