New hair salon a social hub for residents

Age is no barrier when it comes to the relationship between a woman and her hairdresser. We confide in them, value their opinions and trust to them with some of our most dramatic makeovers.

Ruth La Rocca is no exception. She is the in-house hairdresser at TriCare Cypress Gardens Aged Care Residence and says it is a most rewarding and satisfying job she has ever had.

Mrs La Rocca said she fell into her job at TriCare Cypress Gardens.

“In fact, I considered taking an ‘early retirement’ when my daughter was 2 years old, but I loved the work and my clients so much that I stayed. That was 32 years ago!” said Mrs La Rocca.

TriCare Cypress Gardens has recently opened a new salon in its new state-of-the-art wing, providing clients with everything they need in pampering – perms, blow waves, cuts and colours.

TriCare Cypress Gardens Manager, Judy Carter, says the fit out and styling of the new salon is equal to some of the best on the Gold Coast, and Ruth’s care and dedication to the residents is unsurpassed.

“Ruth is a much loved staff member here and the level of service and care she shows to our residents is beyond compare.

Hair salons are vital in an aged care residence. In addition to providing a necessary service to clients, they are a social hub. There is a real buzz every Wednesday when Ruth is on duty,” said Mrs Carter.

The new salon has given Mrs La Rocca a new lease of life as well.

“I did considered retiring –again – but with the opening of the gorgeous new salon I think I have a few more years in me yet!” said Mrs La Rocca.
