TriCare Mt Gravatt resident celebrates 25 years of residency

TriCare Mt Gravatt Retirement Community resident, Brenda Murnane, recently celebrated 25 years as a resident of the village, making her the Village’s longest residing resident.

Prior to moving in on 1 September 1992, Mrs Murnane had thought long and hard about retirement living.

“I was living in a unit before moving to Mt Gravatt; however, the maintenance and upkeep was becoming a little more than I could handle.

“I don’t have to worry about any maintenance now; things get fixed quickly and nothing is a problem.

I enjoy the comfort of a lovely unit and have made so many new friends. There is always something going on,” said Mrs Murnane.

TriCare Mt Gravatt Village Manager, Tammy Watt, believes retirement living appeals because residents have the opportunity to participate in activities every day, or they can enjoy the privacy of their own unit.

“We have a busy monthly calendar of events with a wide range of activities to enjoy such as cards, craft, social outings and gentle exercise.

“However, residents can also enjoy their own independence and space, knowing there is always someone close by to catch up with if they wish,” said Mrs Watt.

Mrs Murnane’s two sons live nearby and she is regularly visited by her grandchildren and great –grandchildren.

“I see my family a lot, it’s so lovely to have them call over for a cup of tea and catch up, only last week we made cakes together in my little kitchen!” said Mrs Murnane.

With public transport on its doorstep, TriCare Mt Gravatt is ideally situated for shopping and business. A twice weekly shopping bus provided by the Village, takes residents to and from Westfield Garden City and Mt Gravatt Plaza to do their weekly shopping, or to enjoy the many speciality shops, restaurants and cafes.

“TriCare Mt Gravatt is a very close knit community. Living here has been a very pleasant part of my life, and I really enjoy the lifestyle. It’s up to you to the make the most if it,” said Mrs Murnane.
