Retirement Living

Frequently Asked Questions

Click on one of the questions below to find out more.

  • Q: Does TriCare offer retirement 'rental' accommodation?

No, TriCare Retirement Communities are available by purchase only. However, you may find our purchase prices quite reasonable so please give us a call. Alternatively, if you are looking specifically for rental accommodation please contact the Retirement Villages Association (free call) on 1800 240 080.

  • Q: How do I know what level of accommodation I require?

If you are still living in your family home and are capable of managing all the day to day tasks with good health – independent living will be quite suitable. If you are quite capable looking after your own personal needs but would love assistance with meals, heavy laundry and housekeeping than a serviced apartment would suit your requirements perfectly.

  • Q: Will I be requested to supply a medical certificate or report to certify my ability to live independently?

Yes, if you are intending to purchase a unit/apartment and have placed a 7 day hold on the unit or apartment, the next step is having your GP complete our medical assessment questionnaire. You have 7 days from the time you place the hold on the unit/apartment to obtain and present the completed report to the Village Manager, who will then determine your suitability for village life.

  • Q: Is there an effective emergency call system 24 hours per day in the unit?

Yes, all of TriCare's Retirement Communities have an effective emergency call system providing residents and their family with complete peace of mind.

  • Q: How is the village managed? Is there resident participation?

The day to day operation of the village consists of a management team who are available during office hours to respond to any queries or questions you may have. Our villages are designed around significant resident involvement. A number of Resident Committee's exist to represent the larger body of residents with regards to Village Budgets, Social Activities, Community Consultation and many other Village functions.

  • Q: Is there a garden area for my use, and who looks after it?

Yes, upon your request we are able to provide you with a small garden to maintain in your time and at your cost. If we feel that the garden is not being maintained to village standards or you are struggling with the upkeep, TriCare can reinstate the garden to be incorporated into the general garden maintenance program.

  • Q: What recreational facilities are provided? Are they free?

An extensive array of facilities is provided at each village including pools, libraries, computers and bowls - all available for use at no cost to residents and their guests (guests must be accompanied by a resident at all times). There are optional activities arranged by Village Management or the Village Social Committee which may attract a participation fee.

  • Q: Is there access to ongoing care should I require it?

Many of our Retirement Communities are located within walking distance to one of TriCare's Aged Care Residences, offering easy visiting options should one partner require a higher level of care. The closeness of the facilities ensures couples are able to continue living close to each other, making visiting easy and eliminating the need for separation caused by transport difficulties.
