People may choose to move to an aged care home for various reasons, including illness or disability that makes it difficult to manage daily tasks, an emergency situation that requires immediate support, increasing pressure on family carers, or difficulty managing daily tasks without assistance.
At TriCare Bundaberg, our residents receive personalised support with daily tasks such as meal preparation and assistance, cleaning and laundry services, personal care including showering, dressing, and grooming, 24-hour nursing care from qualified nursing staff, medication management, continence care, and wound care and treatment.
In addition to these essential services, we offer specialised care and support for complex health conditions, including memory-support care and palliative care. The Australian Government subsidises a range of aged care homes in Australia. This means affordable care and support services can be accessed by those who need it. The subsidies are paid directly to the aged care home.
The amount of funding that a home receives is based on:
- an assessment of your care needs by the home (using a tool called the Aged Care Funding Instrument or ACFI)
- how much you can afford to contribute to the cost of your care and accommodation (using an income and assets assessment) To get the funding, subsidised aged care homes have to meet Aged Care Quality Standards to ensure quality care and services are provided.

Aged care funding and fees can be complex, but they generally involve a combination of government support and personal contributions. - Basic Daily Fee: Covers daily living costs such as meals, cleaning, and laundry. It is set at 85% of the single basic age pension rate.
- Means-Tested Fee: An additional contribution based on an income and assets assessment. This fee has annual and lifetime caps.
- Accommodation Costs: Payment for accommodation can be made as a lump sum (Refundable Accommodation Deposit or RAD), a daily payment (Daily Accommodation Payment or DAP), or a combination of both. Government assistance may be available for eligible individuals
