Gardens and Good Times at Ashgrove

At TriCare’s Ashgrove Aged Care Residence, friendship has blossomed in the most wonderful way between residents Cath and Pat, proving that meaningful connections can truly enrich life at any age. Their story is one of companionship, shared interests, laughter, and finding joy in everyday moments together.

Cath and Pat first connected while spending time on the residence balcony and quickly discovered they had plenty in common. Both independent, social, and passionate about keeping active, their friendship formed naturally through daily chats, shared meals, and time spent enjoying the beautiful outdoor spaces together.

One of the things that brought them even closer was gardening. After Cath moved into the residence, she brought over a collection of plants from home to brighten the balcony area. Together, she and Pat transformed the space into a welcoming green retreat that residents now enjoy for reading, relaxing, and socialising. Their shared care for the plants has not only become a hobby, but also created a calming and beautiful environment for everyone.

Pat says the addition of the plants made a huge difference to the atmosphere, and together they have inspired others in the residence to embrace gardening too. Looking after the balcony garden has become a daily ritual, filled with conversation, teamwork, and many peaceful afternoons spent admiring the trees and enjoying each other’s company.

Beyond gardening, Cath and Pat share many creative interests. From jewellery making and knitting to jigsaw puzzles and crafts, they encourage each other to stay engaged and active while making the most of the lifestyle and activities available at Ashgrove Aged Care residence.

Both residents spoke warmly about the sense of independence and community they have found at TriCare Ashgrove. They appreciate being able to choose activities they enjoy, stay connected with family and friends, and most importantly, have someone special to share life’s everyday moments with.

Their friendship is a beautiful reminder of how important connection and companionship are in residential aged care. Whether it’s sharing stories over a drink, tending to plants together, or simply enjoying each other’s company, Cath and Pat have created a friendship that continues to brighten their days and the lives of those around them.

In their own words

Pat: We sort of met out on that balcony and had quite a lot in common. Really?

Cath: Didn’t take long.

Pat: No, oh yeah, well you can talk and I could talk, you know.

Cath: Yes, yes. And then you were having a drink or something and I said, oh, well, that sounds good. I’ll bring a gin and tonic.

And that was it! At TriCare we love stories like these about our fabulous residents. Enjoying everyday.
