Busy year of outings and new experiences for retirement community residents

Residents at local retirement community TriCare James Ommaney, have enjoyed many and varied experiences over the past year with twice monthly bus trips throughout Brisbane.

The social outings are made that much easier with the Village owning its own bus.

During the summer months residents make the most of the air-conditioning and visit Brisbane’s many art galleries and museums, while in the cooler months the enjoy outdoor pursuits such as walks through the Roma Street Gardens, or an afternoon picnic at Gap Creek Reserve amongst the bell birds.

Resident Val Rees says they derive much enjoyment from these forays into the wider community.

“Most recently we enjoyed a visit to the Kingston Butter Factory Art & Craft centre where we had morning tea, shopping for beautiful craft articles and viewing displays housed in the small historical museum in the former factory”.

2017 finished on a high with one of the last outings being to the Lord Mayor’s annual morning tea in Brisbane’s City Hall. Residents were full of stories on their return after a delightful morning of high tea, music and entertainment.

Village Manager, Steven Pashley says these outings play an integral part in strengthening the social fabric at TriCare James Ommaney Retirement Community.

“Whilst we are situated close to many services and public transport, not all residents are in a position to get out and about without assistance.

The monthly trips provide a convivial social atmosphere for residents while taking in wider cultural, food and wine or outdoor experiences that they may not necessarily be able to manage on their own,” said Mr Pashley.

The social committee have already begun talking about bus trips for 2018 with winery tours, picnics and possible boat cruises on the agenda.
