Volunteering a way of life for TriCare Mt Gravatt resident

TriCare Mt Gravatt Retirement Community resident, Russell Addley has always enjoyed the sense of fulfilment he gets from regularly volunteering within his community.

Whether it’s driving the shuttle bus for Greenslopes Private Hospital, or helping with the lifestyle program for residents at TriCare’s neighbouring Upper Mt Gravatt Aged Care Residence, Mr Addley is in his element.

“For me the motivating factor in volunteering is the self-satisfaction I receive in performing what I believe is a worthwhile and often much needed function within the community.

I will never tire of my various volunteer roles and will continue to keep helping my local community for as long as I am able,” said Mr Addley.

Prior to moving to TriCare Mt Gravatt in late 2017, Mr Addley volunteered for a number of years at both St Stephens Hospital Day Surgery in Hervey Bay, transporting patients’ relatives from Hervey Bay to the hospital in Maryborough, and BlueCare’s Hervey Bay facility, Bayhaven.

“I really enjoyed my time at Bayhaven, accompanying residents on planned local trips, conducting various weekly activities and cooking the monthly Friday BBQ,” said Mr Addley.

Village Manager, Tammy Watt says that many residents at TriCare Mt Gravatt are active in the community in various volunteer roles.

“Retirement doesn’t mean your life stops.

To the contrary, our resident’s often find that a whole new life opens up to them once they retire and they are busier than ever,” said Mrs Watt.
