Trick and treat at TriCare

TriCares’s Gold Coast and Brisbane Aged Care locations were doing the Monster Mash recently, as staff and residents got into the spirit and enjoyed celebrating Halloween. It was a case of eat, drink, and be scary as costumes, activities, and festive food added to the fun.

If you’ve got it, haunt it

At Upper Mt Gravatt, Cyprus Gardens, and Jindalee, the residents enjoyed wearing spooky costumes, while at Bayview, some crafty residents even made their own masks. It is evident from the photos that people had fun showing off their Halloween costumes and getting into the spirit of the day. Let’s not forget the staff though – special mention must go to the Lifestyle Co-ordinator at Kawana Waters, who took one for the team and wore an inflatable flamingo costume all day. The residents loved it and thought it was hysterical! We’re sure it was a boo-tiful outfit.

No rest for the wicked

Tricks and treats were the order of the day for Brisbane Aged Care residents, with a bucketful of activities happening. A scary movie followed by Halloween bingo kept residents busy at Upper Mt Gravatt. Also, residents shared many memories of their experiences of Halloween, with several people saying that they enjoy Halloween with their kids and grandkids while eating lots of chocolate! Overall, people agreed that Halloween has been enjoyed for so long because it allows us to engage with our fears and scary things, which are part of life.

At Bayview, Cypress Gardens, and Jindalee, Halloween decorations including scary spiders, webs, pumpkins, and black cats adorned the walls. Bayview residents combined their Halloween celebrations with festivities for Diwali – the Festival of Lights – as Staff dressed in traditional clothing and danced for residents.

At Kawana Waters, the highlight was a game of Pass the Parcel to scary music, each layer loaded with sweets, chocolates, scary bugs, and body part lollies.

Residents at Cypress Gardens and Mt Gravatt also enjoyed entertainment by some favourite performers – Roy, and Ben and Dawn respectively.

Fang-tastic food

It wouldn’t be Halloween without some tasty treats and while Bayview residents enjoyed a delicious barbeque lunch, Kawana Waters staff hosted a spooky Halloween High Tea. The award for best boo-verage must go to the staff at Jindalee however –- Halloween party attendees at this Brisbane Aged Care location were treated to a very special slime drink! The residents there must be stout of heart to try such a creepy cuppa.

It’s plain to see that our residents enjoyed getting in on the fun of Halloween. At TriCare, it’s important to us that our residents live life to the fullest and enjoy every moment. Thanks to the staff and residents from all our locations for getting involved in the light-hearted Halloween celebrations and making memories.
