Residential Short-Term (respite) – Inclusions & Costs

At TriCare, we understand the immense responsibility of caring for an elderly family member. Our Short-Term (respite) Residential Aged Care provides a vital break for carers, allowing you to rest and recharge with peace of mind.

Our Short-Term Care Services

Our Short-Term Care Services

TriCare’s Short-Term Care offers a comfortable and supportive environment where your loved one receives 24-hour nursing care, assistance with daily tasks, nutritious meals, and access to social activities. Whether you are planning a vacation, facing an emergency, or need temporary relief from caregiving, our services ensure dedicated care in a secure setting.

Short-Term Care is more than temporary relief; it’s an opportunity for your loved one to experience residential care first-hand. They can immerse themselves in our community, gaining insights into daily life and services, helping them decide if our Aged Care Residences align with their needs. Many find a sense of belonging during their stay, leading to a smooth permanent transition.

What should I expect to pay?

What should I expect to pay?

Residents will need to pay a Basic Daily Fee for Residential Short-Term Care, which contributes to the costs of meals, cleaning, and other daily living expenses. This fee is capped at 85% of the full standard single age pension.

Additionally, aged care providers may also offer additional goods and services. From 1 November 2025 (under the new aged care act) this fee is called the Higher Everyday Living Fee (HELF). An opportunity for residents to purchase additional goods and services at a higher standard than required. Based on goods and services only. This is not currently offered by TriCare.

What are the government subsidies?

What are the government subsidies?

The Australian Government subsidises eligible individuals, who are entitled, up to 63 days of government-subsidised Short-Term Care each financial year, with the possibility of an additional 21 days if approved by an Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT).

You will not be asked to pay a means tested care fee or accommodation payment.

Visit My Aged Care to see what assistance is available or phone My Aged Care on 1800 836 799 for guidance on the assessment process and eligibility.

For those who do not qualify for government subsidies, Short-Term Care can still be arranged privately at a fixed rate.
